Courses 2013

Once again we could win Damian Conway as instructor for courses in 2013. Damian is the author of several books about Perl and of numerous Perl modules. In addition to his work as Perl instructor and consultant he works closely together with Larry Wall on the definition of Perl 6.

The courses are organized by Oetiker+Partner AG together with the IT services of ETH Zurich and will be held in room HG F26.1 of the main building of ETH Zurich between 9 and 17h. The courses will be given in English.

NOTE: The course on Presentation Skills on Thursday is not computer science specific and addresses everyone who wants to present or teach complex topics in an understandable and entertaining way.

Perl Even Better Practices: Monday, 18 March 2013 --- Registration
This brand new course will be of benefit to any developer who wants to write better, more reliable, more maintainable Perl code.
In the past twelve months Damian Conway has revisited the advice given in his book Perl Best Practices. Drawing on ten additional years of experience as a developer and educator, this class offers dozens of new and improved suggestions to make your best-practice Perl code even better.
NOTE:: The class will be of particular interest to Perl programmers who have either previously taken Damian's Perl Best Practice course or who are familiar with the book Perl Best Practices, but does not require previous experience with either.
Perl Programming Masterclass: Tuesday and Wednesday, 19 and 20 May 2013 --- Registration
This two-day class explores a range of advanced programming techniques, that are especially suited to Perl development. Topics covered include: Subroutines and Closures, Variables and Data Structures, Scoping and Context, Objects and Classes, Error Handling.
NOTE: This course addresses experienced Perl developers looking to take the next step up to more powerful, more efficient, and more maintainable implementation techniques.
Advanced Technical Presentation Techniques: Thursday, 21 March 2013 --- Registration
Presenting technical information to an audience is one of the hardest tasks any professional can face. Presenting effectively is not a natural talent for most people. Indeed, many technical presentations utterly fail in their primary objective -- to convey a complex idea or argument clearly and convincingly.
This class explains -- and demonstrates -- the key techniques that combine to produce an effective and enjoyable technical presentation.
